Beyond SKIM

Other activities (in situ networks, satellite missions, numerical modelling efforts...) are also contributing to the SKIM goals of mapping surface currents and ocean waves and its particular focus on the tropics and marginal ice zones. Here are a few links...

  • The WaCM concept is developed in the U.S. by Rodriguez, Chelton, Bourrassa & al.  WaCM addresses the same goals of global ocean currents monitoring would be very complementary to SKIM, with a much wider swath and measurements of both currents and winds... not waves. Here is a link to a joint presentation made at the EGU meeting in 2018.
